There are 3 data acquisition (instrument configuration) regions within this data set. Each one is stored in a separate directory. The data are provided in four coordinate systems (IRC, System III [1965], JSE, JSM - see below for details) for the entire data set. The data from each coordinate system are stored in separate files. Thus the primary data set consists of three subdirectories each containing four data files. There are some ancillary data which are also provided in a separate file.
Jupiter Approach
This directory contains the portion of the browse data set associated with the Jupiter approach. Data contained in this directory span the time interval 1995-11-06T00:21:30 to 1995-12-06T02:09:47. These data were all acquired by using the optimal averager portion of the instrument.

Io Flyby
This directory contains the portion of the browse data set associated with the Io torus and flyby. Data contained in this directory span the time interval 13:37:39 - 18:25:36 UT on Dec 7 1995. Data are a mixture of optimal averager data (13:37 - 15:21) in the outer torus and high resolution data averaged down to 24 second samples nearer to Io.
The file JUP_CA.TAB contains the ancillary data from the Jupiter closest approach interval. There is only a field magnitude average provided since there was no high time resolution attitude control during the spin up and JOI burn period. Without the attitude control data, these data can not be resolved into field components.
There are no Browse plots of the low resolution MAG data for the Io flyby. However, there are browse plots for the high resolution MAG data acquired near Io.
Jupiter 0 Orbit
This directory contains the portion of the browse data set associated with the Jupiter orbit 0. Data contained in this directory span the time interval 1996-03-29T16:38:47 to 1996-06-01T09:18:42. Data are a mixture of optimal averager data (3/29/96 - 5/4/96) and RTS data (5/24/96 - 6/1/96).

Additional information about these data is available in the data set catalog file MAGBRWDS.CAT which is located in the CATALOG directory off the root of this disk. Information on the instrument can be found in the Space Science Reviews instrument paper which is located in the DOCUMENT/MAG directory.
Data are provided in four coordinate systems: Spacecraft (IRC), System III [1965], JSE, and JSM. Please review the data set catalog or individual file labels for coordinate system definitions. The data are stored in ASCII tables (*.TAB) which are described by detached PDS labels (*.LBL).

Each MAG data file contains embedded spacecraft trajectory data for the coordinate system of the MAG vectors. In addition, there are separate trajectory data files (DATA/TRAJECT) where data from multiple coordinate systems are stored in a single data file. Spacecraft attitude and other geometry information are also available in the GEOMETRY directory.
