PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2000-02-02 NOTE = "Description of DOCUMENT directory contents." END_OBJECT = TEXT END I. Introduction Documentation files from the original CD-ROM volumes have been included on this three volume collection. The entire suite of documentation is repeated on each of the three volumes. The documentation describes the format and content of the various data files. Some of the documentation describes the structure of the original CD-ROM volumes and may not be applicable to this collection. In addition, the AAREADME.TXT files from the original CD-ROM volumes have been included with the documentation files for each data set. The documentation files are organized into subdirectories, with a separate subdirectory for each instrument and one for SPICE. Information concatenated from the separate DOCINFO.TXT files of the original CD-ROM volumes is given below. II. Accelerometer Documentation The Accelerometer document directory contains documentation on the archival data set and files within the data set. The files are: SIS_ACC.TXT A Software Interface Specification (SIS) for the archival volume. This document describes the structure and content of the original archive volume. PERIALTS.PS A figure showing periapsis altitude vs. orbit number in PostScript format. PERIALTS.LBL is the corresponding PDS label file. JSR.ASC ASCII version of Tolson et al Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets paper from May/June 1999. JSR.LBL is the corresponding PDS label file. JSR*.TIF Figures from JSR paper in TIFF format. JSR.LBL is the corresponding PDS label file. III. MAG/ER Documentation The MAG/ER document directory contains documentation files from the Mars Global Surveyor MAG/ER data archive (MGSM_1xxx). The following documents can be found in this directory: VOLSIS.HTM - Mars Global Surveyor MAG/ER SIS document (HTML version). This document describes the structure and content of the data in the archive. VOLSIS.DOC - A MS Word format version of the MAG/ER SIS document. VOLSIS.TXT - An ASCII version of the MAG/ER SIS document. VOLSIS.LBL - A detached PDS label describing the above documents. IV. MOC Documentation The 'volinfo' file, stored in the MOC document directory, provides detailed information about the contents, organization, structure, and processing for the MOC DSDP archive. volinfo.txt - ASCII formatted volinfo. mocsis.txt - MOC SIS in ASCII form. V. MOLA Documentation The MOLA documentation directory contains documentation files from MGS MOLA archive volumes. The files listed below are found in this directory. AEDRSIS.CSS - HTML style sheet used by AEDRSIS.HTM. AEDRSIS.HTM - Hypertext version of MOLA AEDR Software Interface Specification. AEDRSIS.LBL - PDS label for AEDRSIS.HTM and AEDRSIS.PDF. AEDRSIS.PDF - PDF version of MOLA AEDR Software Interface Specification. ARCHSIS.HTM - Hypertext version of MOLA Archive Volume Software Interface Specification. ARCHSIS.LBL - PDS label for ARCHSIS.HTM and ARCHSIS.PDF. ARCHSIS.PDF - PDF version of MOLA AEDR Software Interface Specification. FIGURE1.GIF - Image of Figure 1 used in ARCHSIS.HTM. MOLALOGO.GIF- Image of MOLA logo used in AEDRSIS.HTM and PEDRSIS.HTM. PEDRSIS.CSS - HTML style sheet used by PEDRSIS.HTM. PEDRSIS.HTM - Hypertext version of MOLA PEDR Software Interface Specification. PEDRSIS.LBL - PDS label for PEDRSIS.HTM and PEDRSIS.PDF. PEDRSIS.PDF - PDF version of MOLA PEDR Software Interface Specification. VI. Radio Science Documentation The Radio Science (RS) document directory contains documentation on the archival data set and files within the data set. Each file is in ASCII, there are 80 characters per line in each file except where indicated. Each line is delimited with a carriage-return (ASCII 13) line-feed (ASCII 10) pair. The files are: RSADCSDP.TXT A Software Interface Specification (SIS) for the archival volume. This document describes the structure and content of the original Radio Science volume. RSTP.TXT The SIS for files containing temperature-pressure profiles derived from radio occultation measurements. Two versions of the profiles are covered: standard resolution (data type TPS) and high-resolution (TPH). OCCSUM.TXT The SIS for Occultation Summary files. Two versions of the file are covered: files containing summaries of standard resolution profiles (data type OCS) and files containing summaries from high-resolution profiles (OCH). SHADR.TXT The SIS for files containing Spherical Harmonic models (such as gravity fields or topography) in ASCII formats (data type SHA). SHBDR.TXT The SIS for files containing Spherical Harmonic models (such as gravity fields or topography) in binary formats (data type SHB). RSDMAP.TXT The SIS for Radio Science Digital Map products (data type IMG). OCCLOGxx.TAB A table of data acquisition parameters from radio occultation opportunities. 'xx' denotes the version of the table. For example OCCLOGA1.TAB covers the first occultation season (1998-01-24 through 1998-04-28) and was included on archival volume MORS_1001. Tables will be omitted if there were no occultation results on the volume; in some cases more than one version of the table will be included. The table gives dates and times, DSN antenna numbers, signal-to-noise ratio, and file names of the ODR file for each observation opportunity. There are also terse indicators of data quality. Detached label OCCLOGxx.LBL describes the format and content of the corresponding table. LOSAPDR.TXT The SIS for Line of Sight Acceleration Profile Data Records (data type LOS). AAS99328.LBL A detached PDS label defining a document which describes MGS Orbit determination at Goddard Space Flight Center. The discussion includes constraints from the Mars Orbiting Laser Altimeter (MOLA). The label points toward a PostScript version of the document (AAS99328.PS) and a version created using LaTeX (AAS99328.TEX), both of which are included in this directory. VII. SPICE Documentation Generic and MGS specific SPICE documentation ============================================== The complete set of generic SPICE documentation describing SPICE Kernel file formats and the ways data in the kernels can be accessed using SPICE System Toolkit is distributed with the toolkit. Refer to the "SOFTINFO.TXT" document in the SOFTWARE directory of this volume for more information regarding obtaining the SPICE Toolkit. The MGS data specific documentation is included within actual data files -- in the description area of the SPICE text kernel files (LSK, SCLK, text PCK, FK) or in the comments area of the SPICE binary kernel files (SPK, CK, binary PCK, EK) -- and can be viewed using any text editor (for text files) or COMMNT/SPACIT utility programs distributed with SPICE System Toolkit (for binary files.) The only documents provided in the SPICE directory are LBLINFO.TXT and ONLABELS.TXT. They describe location and naming of the PDS labels in this data set (LBLINFO.TXT) and the keywords and values found in these labels (ONLABELS.TXT).
