The unexplained thermal variations continued over about 14:00 to 16:00, and the HGA/LGA swap for Wiggle Test #6 is obvious in plots of telecom channels. Open Loop Data ============== Data Collection --------------- Open loop data were acquired while the spacecraft was on the USO during Wiggle Test #6. About 20 MB were obtained from 21:35 (correct ground configuration) to 22:15 (end of recording); attenuators were not set correctly after the spacecraft returned to the HGA (22:00) so only the first 25 minutes of data were useful. Details are in the table below. The 35 dB SNR is for a 1 Hz bandwidth with the LGA. Frequency Analyses ------------------ The data during the Wiggle Test have been processed and plotted to show frequency residuals (Figure 1). The wiggle events themselves are characterized by a sinusoidal frequency oscillation of about +/-0.3 Hz amplitude and 6 second period, beginning about 21:45:54 ERT and ending about 21:47:25 ERT. The oscillations slowly die out, but there are hints in the plot to at least 21:50:00 ERT. The peak Doppler residual of +/-0.3 Hz corresponds to a maximum radial velocity of 1 cm/sec for the phase center of the LGA; if the oscillations are sinusoidal, the peak radial displacement of the phase center is about 1 cm. Although difficult to see in Figure 1, there are also prominent positive Doppler events on the order of 0.1 Hz near 21:44:35 and 21:49:52 ERT. Closed Loop Data ================ No new data received at Stanford. Bill Sjogren has been monitoring quality of 2-way data at JPL and reports that noise is time variable. For example noise on 1997-01-21 between approximately 04:40 and 10:00 is significantly higher than noise from 10:00 to 12:40 ERT. He has also correlated a 0.1 mm/sec change in residuals near 1997-01-20T07:20 with an angulkar momentum desaturation. Finally, he notes that rotation effects, easily seen in data a week ago, are now barely visible or not seen at all in 2-way Doppler. Figure Captions =============== 1.
