Median USO temperature (T-0315) is the same as yesterday. The temperature anomalies reported near 15 h SCET do not appear in the engineering data for 1997/023; there was apparently no DSN coverage at that time. Instead, we have data until about 8 h and then additional data after about 20 h. The temperatures at the end of the day appear to be slightly higher than those at the beginning, but the situation is complicated by the fact that there was an MOT/TWTA/Antenna switch for Wiggle Test #7 during the approximate interval 21-22 h. Open Loop Data ============== Data Collection --------------- Open-loop one-way USO data were collected during Wiggle Test #7. Following Trish Priest's suggestion we queried from 1997/024-21:04 to 21:50. There were no missing records, and all data appear to be good quality with uniform signal levels. SNR is for 1-Hz bandwidth on the LGA. Data have been obtained from DSS 45 earlier today, but those have not been processed. During the first interval both X-band and Ka-band were running from the USO. During the second interval Wiggle Test #8 was conducted. For the other two periods, Trish arranged a retransmission after the observations had been completed. Frequency Analyses ------------------ Analysis of the Wiggle Test #7 data shows a 6-second oscillation between about 21:32:24 to 21:34:12 ERT (after the solar array was moved into position but before the Wiggle activity began), but the magnitude is less than +/-0.01 Hz -- making it difficult to distinguish from noise in the measurements (Figure 1). The 6-second oscillation was VERY clear in Wiggle Test #6. Starting at 21:34:12 ERT, there is a sudden drop (-0.06 Hz) in one-way Doppler residual followed by about a cycle and a half of a poorly characterized (3 minute, +/-0.03 Hz amplitude) oscillation. The residuals return to nominal behavior after 21:29:00 ERT, which is about when the solar array had returned to its normal position. Because of the noisy nature of the background, we retained the 1.6 sec averaging for this analysis (Figure 1) rather than switching to 0.2 sec, which might have been more revealing for the Wiggle Test #6 data.
