PDS_VERSION = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 1997-04-11 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA7101A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END This report is being submitted by Joe Twicken. Dick Simpson is out of the office once again today. He will resume distribution of these health reports this week-end. The system on our local Durand building network which was compromised last week was a Sun system running SunOS belonging to the Aero/Astro Engineering Department (aa.stanford.edu). Apparently, the intruders gained access to the system through a security hole in the Aero/Astro NCSA HTTPD web server and obtained a copy of the users password file (/etc/passwd). The intruders also succeeded in decrypting the Web-server password. In addition, the intruders were able to gain root access to the system and install a hacker Rootkit and network sniffer. The sniffer ran from 17:00 on 4/1 to 13:00 on 4/3. Stanford users whose passwords may have been compromised have changed their passwords on all the systems on which they have accounts. All users of the RST SOPC have also been advised to change their passwords on that system. As far as we know, neither the RST SOPC nor any other system of ours has been violated. Open Loop Data ============== Data Collection --------------- Dick will report on the collection of open-loop GWE data this week-end. Closed Loop Data ================ Data Collection --------------- No new data. See anomalies. We have obtained the following files from OSCAR and EPIC: Original File Name Name on SOPC ------------------------------ ------------ ATDF: ODF: IONCAL: TROPCAL: WEATHER: UTPM: EOP: Anomalies --------- We continue to be denied ftp access to OSCAR. Dick has unsuccessfully attempted to contact Scott Fullner to reactivate the account. Until we have access to that machine at JPL, we cannot transfer ATDF, ODF, IONCAL, TROPCAL, WEATHER and UTPM files. I was also unable to reach the EPIC EOP web site today to search for new EOP files.
