PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2001-02-26 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA1057A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Errata ====== Eleven occultations listed in Friday's report (HEA1054A.TXT) as "not found" were actually never captured. An obscure scripting error allowed operations to proceed normally, yet without capturing the data. Discovery of the problem occurred only after we recovered our ability to submit queries and reported that we could not obtain the data. Aseel Anabtawi then requested retransmissions from the DSN stations and could locate no data there. Miscellaneous ============= We have located a bad input file to QUERY2PLOT which appears to correct our problems in processing spacecraft engineering and DSN monitor data. We have advised Vincent Hung, who may want to look at this as a systemic problem. A review of our notes from the last software upgrade suggests that the same type of problem occurred in Oct 2000. In that case, JPL SAs tracked down and repaired the problem; this time, we found it first (and have made appropriate notes). Assuming there are no further difficulties, we believe we have recovered full functionality needed on the MGS RST SOPC. We will begin working on the backlog of engineering and monitor data. The summary below includes data from only 2001/046, the first day after the unsuccessful software upgrade. Poor "contacts" have been suspected for abnormally low signal levels (but without affecting signal-to-noise ratio in most cases), especially after switching from one antenna to another. The next change in antenna is scheduled for 2001/058. Data from occultation 8781i (start time 2001/054-13:43:00) were captured at both DSS 15 (HEA1054A.TXT) and DSS 45. Data from occultation 8781i (DSS 45, start time 2001/054-13:43:00) have +/-1 dB fluctuations in carrier intensity prior to ingress. A 2 dB "fade" occurred just before occultation. Surface echoes remain very strong through most of these occultations.
