The period of the sinusoidal variation is about 40 s. Cause is unknown. Data from occultation 8897i (DSS 45, start time 2001/064-01:20:00) have +/-0.5 dB oscillations on both carrier and noise throughout the second half of the recording period. The oscillations aren't as clean as the ones during 8872i (above) and the period is slightly shorter. Occultation 8901i (start time 2001/064-09:11:00) has surface echoes, but their appearance looks more like interference than normal surface echoes. The same pattern was captured at two stations (DSS 65 and DSS 25), however, so we presume they are at least originating at Mars.
