PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2001-03-20 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA1079A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Errata ====== Trajectory reconstruction 0129136B.GDN had unusually high residuals. The Goddard group has made a new solution and the result is 0129136C.GDN (see MOLA POD Team Orbit Solutions below). Altimeter crossovers at 3858 points in the new solution have rms deviation 2.96 meters. Miscellaneous ============= Jesse Glance provided a plot showing MOC temperature fluctuations during some "focus" tests between days 063 and 071. He suggested that the rise to -5C drop to -27C and final return to -14C on MOC channel T-0229 (MOC_NAFP_T) might correlate with USO temperature fluctuations. We had not noticed USO changes previously but on closer examination could imagine variations on the order of +/-0.15C (T-0315) roughly correlating with the +/-10C changes in MOC temperature. We do not believe USO temperature fluctuations this small would be detectable in the USO frequency, however. Variations at least this large are seen on each MGS orbit. Cause is unknown. Data from the following occultations were lost (either totally or partially) because of scripting problems. The precise nature of the failure is unknown; Aseel Anabtawi is investigating. Occultation Start Date/Time DSS Comments ----------- ----------------- --- ----------------- 9085i 2001/079-10:15:00 25 No data 9086i 2001/079-12:16:43 25 First 223 s lost In the case of 9086i, the geometric occultation and about 105 s leading up to it were captured after Aseel Anabtawi configured the DSP manually, so the impact on science may be minimal. Note that 9087i is also missing (see above). Surface echoes prior to 9076i (DSS 43, start time 2001/078-16:36:00) are as much as 15 dB above the noise level -- among the strongest ever seen in quick look plots. On the other hand 9084i (DSS 65, start time 2001/079- 08:18:00) has no discernible surface echoes, illustrating the highly variable nature of these signals from northern polar regions.
