In fact, this occultation was beyond the official end-of- track at DSS 15 and was only attempted because sometimes the station continues to operate for a few extra minutes. In this case that turned out not to be true. However, the occultation was captured at DSS DSS 34 shortly after beginning of track at Canberra. Miscellaneous ============= Because of the weekend, this is the first report since HEA1110A.TXT. Sami Asmar has forwarded the following (slightly edited) report from the MGS Project Office: The spacecraft continued nominal extended mission operations during this week. Twice weekly sequences were uploaded and successfully executed by the spacecraft. In addition, seven targeted Roll Only Targeted Observations (ROTO) sequences were performed. The three-script power reduction mode was implemented to off-point the solar array by 25 degrees, thereby extending the power shunt life and protecting the battery from overcharging. Work also began on the MGS Operations Camera (MOC) focus calibration sequence (April 25-May 2) and memory read out to evaluate microphonics generated by possible changes in the solar array bending moments (April 25). Discussion with the Mars Odyssey Project has identified a software (MAPGEN) change which could provide earlier playback of recorded MGS observations in order to alert aerobraking operations of detected dust storms. Topics for the May 1 Program Review of the MGS extended mission lifetime projections were addressed at the Monthly Management Review held at LMA on April 19. A special meeting was held on April 16 to review possible improvements in the ROTO targeting process. To date, the constraint of performing ROTOs only during non-tracking periods has significantly limited observations of potential MER landing sites. Channelized DSN Monitor data were not available from the query server when we submitted our query at last midnight. A call to Data Control resolved the problem; Ray Williams reported that the catalog had not been updated. This is the third time this has happened in approximately the last two weeks.
