PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2001-05-25 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA1145A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Errata ====== DSN weather files 1001134E.WEA and 1001134G.WEA were announced in HEA1142A.TXT. These appear to be duplicates of files collected earlier. We have removed the new files from our collection. Since the weather files are cumulative over the calendar year, the next versions should incorporate all of the recent data. Data from occultation 9876i (DSS 65, start time 2001/144-02:47:00) were described in HEA1144A.TXT as "not found"; in fact, they were lost to a SPA-R initialization failure. Miscellaneous ============= Frank Lemoine has relayed information on ISA Z71620 submitted by Stuart Demcak. The following is a summary: Examining the Doppler data, a small perturbation seems to be occurring on the spacecraft soon after it comes out of the HGA beta rewind ("blackout") period after periapsis. This perturbation seems to occur about 5 minutes after the solar array orientation change around this time. For example, a jump of approximately +.007-.01 Hz is seen in the 2-way Doppler for orbits 9759-9760. Estimating for an impulsive maneuver at these "jumps" in these three orbits give delta-V magnitudes of .63 mm/s, .71 mm/s and .33 mm/s. These maneuvers were placed at the following epochs (ET, SCET): '14-MAY-2001 12:41:38.000' $ ET '14-MAY-2001 14:39:48.000' $ ET '14-MAY-2001 16:41:32.000' $ ET I know that this "jump" effect had been seen all the way back on 4/17/01, and may have occurred even earlier. Back at this time, these jumps in the Doppler (after the beta rewind) occurred infrequently. However, there frequency seemed to increase with time. I can not say for sure whether this Doppler jump (perturbation) currently occurs in every orbit. However, if it does not, it certainly occurs in almost every orbit. We did not know the cause but speculated that there might be a bad connection in the receiving circuitry. Today we have had the same behavior on three more occultations at DSS 15 (9891i-9893i; start times 2001/145-08:14:00 through 12:09:00). During 9891i the corruption occurs more than 150 s before ingress, so those data will probably be useful for science. In the other two cases, the corruptions extends through the entire recording and the data are lost. We note that the DSN schedule indicates "PTNTL RFI" during these passes and have asked the RSSG at JPL to check whether the Goldstone Solar System Radar was transmitting during these times. In the past, parallel operations have not caused interference to occultation data collection. PTNTL RFI is also predicted for days 146 and 149 and for days in June and July.
