Only the portion of the occultation with transmitter on is being captured (transmitter is turned on after completion of the HGA rewind, which is after surface occultation egress). These observations are also conducted with telemetry on (SNR -15 dB with respect to telemetry off). Data are being collected primarily to monitor total electron content in the ionosphere. Signal level increases 0.2-0.5 dB about a minute after AOS in data collected at SPC 40. There are suggestions of a similar increase in some data from SPC 60. Data from DSS 15 and data from DSS 54 at the beginning of each pass tends to have much noisier carrier levels.
