Cause for the anomaly is unknown, nor is it known why the carrier-to-noise level is 14 dB below nominal.. The egress occultation occurred at about 12:05:17. Data expected to start at 1999/361T19:54:00 began at 19:56:13, missing the egress occultation. Carrier frequency drifts much more than usual, so this may be a case where radio science predicts did not load properly and station predicts were substituted, but too late to catch the occultation. Data from DSS 65 have much less stable carrier levels than usual -- typically +/-0.3 dB. Data starting 1999/361T19:24:00 have variations of +/-0.7 dB. Very weak spurs at +/-120 Hz from the carrier continue in data from DSS 15.
