Strengths are about -32 dBc. The spurs are not seen in data from other complexes, nor are they seen in DSS 25 data. The symptoms suggest a bad ground or loose connection in the DSS 15 hardware -- or cabling in SPC 10 that delivers the DSS 15 signal. Given that the carrier-to-noise level is about 45 dB these days, the spurs are significant when compared against the background noise. At +/-60 Hz from the carrier, they probably will not affect standard processing of occultation data; but they could easily be a problem when we go to higher vertical resolution (which requires wider bandwidths). We have asked Tim Smith to investigate. Data from occultation 6307i (DSS 54, start time 2000/218-09:17:00) appear to have been collected with a 20 kHz filter and 5 kHz sampling rate. No signal is visible in power spectra. Data from occultation 6308i (DSS 54, start time 2000/218-11:15:00) have a 1 dB increase in noise level about 40 s after ingress. Data from occultation 6319i (DSS 54, start time 2000/219-08:49:00) have two attenuation changes prior to ingress. Data from occultation 6320i (DSS 54, start time 2000/218-10:47:00) have a 1 dB increase in noise level about 50 s after ingress.
