Sami Asmar has forwarded the following report from the MGS Project covering last week: The spacecraft conducted nominal mapping operations during this week. Twice weekly sequences were uploaded and successfully executed by the spacecraft. The first of five star pictures was successfully taken on September 18 to assess the MOC focus near aphelion temperatures. Camera pointing was within 0.15 degrees of prediction. A second image at a new focus position was secured on September 22. Campaign E was successfully completed on September 18 (mid-spring Mars Northern Hemisphere volatile observations). Loss of track 7 data from the recorder playbacks has forced reversion to an earlier table approach to mitigate data losses induced by the Beta Supplement induced short arc periods of downlink. Analysis was completed demonstrating planetary quarantine compliance for the Extended Mission phase. A full report will be forwarded to the PQ Official, J. Rummel, in the next few weeks. A plan seeking additional MDAP data analysis support for the Extended Mission was also submitted. Data from occultation 6902i (DSS 45, start time 2000/267-00:08:00) were late in starting by 81s. A scripting error was corrected and the DSP was restarted before telemetry was turned off, so the impact on science should be negligible. Data from occultation 6905i (DSS 65, start time 2000/267-06:01:00) were lost because of complications resulting from a bad set of tuning predicts. Assel regenerated the predicts and the remaining occultations were captured successfully. The data that were captured starting at 06:01:00 contain only noise. Data from occultations 69091 and 6910i (DSS 15, start times 2000/267- 13:52:00 and 15:50:00) could not be collected because of a DSP scheduling conflict with Cassini tests at DSS 25.
