PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2000-11-20 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA0325A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Miscellaneous ============= Because of the weekend, this is the first report since HEA0322A.TXT. For the second weekend in a row, queries for channelized DSN Monitor data failed over the weekend. Data Control says there is no shortage of data, but they agree that our queries are not finding it. They have suggested using a different query server (Mgs_MASTER_QueryServer). We have switched, and the missing data are being recovered; but we remain puzzled since there was unanimous agreement when we went to Mgs_CDR_QueryServer that it provided more reliable data. Sami Asmar provided the following (slightly edited) summary of MGS activities from the Project office: The spacecraft continued nominal mapping operations during (the past) week. Twice weekly sequences were uploaded and successfully executed by the spacecraft. Twenty-four MOLA off-nadir polar scans were successfully completed on November 13. Operation with the High Gain Antenna parked-position, elevation constraint began November 16. Southern Hemisphere occultation measurements (24 longitudes) started November 17. No increase in Single Event Upsets was registered by the MGS spacecraft as a result of the solar flare which is thought to have put the Stardust spacecraft into safe mode on November 8. University of Arizona completed updates to the Mars upper atmosphere model (380 km) based on densities observed during MGS aerobraking. These data show a factor of 2 increase in density over the pre-launch calculations and will be included in planetary quarantine lifetime calculations. Estimates of spacecraft fuel usage during the extended mission by Lockheed Martin predict sufficient resources to support M'03 Lander UHF relay through March 2004 following nominal operations into February 2003. At this point, the MGS spacecraft could be placed into relay mode which uses only 1/15 attitude fuel compared to mapping (2gm/day delta V), i.e. 1 month mapping = 1+ year relay. Capturing an egress occultation given the current spacecraft Mapping attitude requires a maneuver, generally carried out during only one 24-hr interval each month. Anomalies --------- The following occultations were captured at two ground stations: Occultation Setting Rising DSP Start Date/Time DSS DSS ----------- ------- ------ ------------------- 7585e 15 45 2000/322-18:26:00 7593i 65 25 2000/323-11:20:00 7598i 25 45 2000/323-21:09:00 Data from occultation 7589i (DSS 45, start time 2000/323-03:30:00) have +/-0.3 dB fluctuations in carrier level prior to ingress. This was the last occultation of the pass. Data from occultation 7593i (start time 2000/323-11:20:00) have an odd +/-0.5 dB oscillation in carrier level 2-3 minutes before ingress. This was captured at two ground stations (DSS 65 and DSS 25). Data from occultation 7614e (DSS 45, start time 2000/325-03:19:00) have +/-0.3 dB fluctuations in carrier level prior to ingress. This was the last occultation of the pass.
