We were successful in reading, and ingesting all the orbit data files and met data files over this time period. The data quality - for which these runs provide an upper bound - is outstanding. For instance, the Doppler data from the Canberra station 45 have an RMS of 0.012 mm/s for the 600 second data. We have not done anything fancy yet, such as construct a "box-wing" model or use quaternions, but we did validate that we could interpret the c-kernel quaternion files without any problem. Ignoring the attitude for now is OK in this first approximation, as we understand the s/c HGA was pointed dead on the Earth most of the time. Other modeling: DE403, ephemerides and GM's. Polar motion from Lageos/Lageos-2 solution from UT/CSR imported by TOPEX/POD group, for cycle 970812. "Box-wing" macro model and attitude corrections not implemented in these runs. Most of the Doppler data have a count interval of 600 seconds. Data for other count intervals appear on August 4, 5 and 6, and the sigmas for those data are scaled accordingly, ie. by 1 mm/s * sqrt(600/count). (10 second data from 970804 00:00 to 970804 11:00; 60 second data from 970805 05:51 to 970805 10:43 5 second data from 970806 05:33 to 970806 10:31) Reference frame for run, was J2000, heliocentric mode. Both runs, include met data corrections for all stations, using weather data files: 7001231.WEA, 70012314.WEA, 70012316.WEA, (hence only through August 19; model of Chao applied on Aug 20, 21). ION corrections not implemented because of problem in GEODYN TDF preprocessor, (currently under investigation). s/c range transponder delay implemented as range bias, and range bias not adjusted (will be implemented using GEODYN OBSCOR option in future runs). The Doppler+range run was repeated after it had been converged. The orbital state, Cr, and accelerations that model mom.dumps were held fixed, while pass by pass biases were adjusted for the range and Doppler data. This type of run should give a closer handle on the noise quality of the data.
