Open Loop Data ============== Data Collection --------------- Trish Priest reports there were no anomalies during data acquisition from occultations #18-21. We have transferred the data to Stanford: YYYY/DDD DSS DSP SAMP BW DSP BIT TRK REC RECS RECS SNR START STOP RATE MODE RESN MODE LEN MSSG -------- --- -------- -------- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----- ---- ----- 1998/039 45 03:01:58 03:16:00 5000 2000 2 12 1-W 1666 4211 0 51.5 1998/039 15 20:58:15 21:12:00 5000 2000 2 12 1-W 1666 4126 0 51.0 1998/040 65 14:49:21 15:03:00 5000 2000 2 12 1-W 1666 4096 0 40.3 1998/041 45 08:30:10 08:43:00 5000 2000 2 12 1-W 1666 3851 0 49.2 Anomalies --------- Occultation #22 (98/042) was not captured. When the remote operations script was executed, the new tuning predict set was rejected. Since the previous day's predicts were still in the system, the DSP went into RUN mode with the old predicts. There wasn't time to diagnose and correct the problem before the spacecraft went into occultation. Trish says her group will be monitoring the loading of predicts more carefully in the future; they will also be looking into ways of dealing with such situations when unattended operations are scheduled. Spurs at multiples of 30 Hz on both sides of the carrier are present in the 1998/039 data from DSS 15. Carrier-to-noise level in 1998/040 data from DSS 65 is 10 dB below normal. During the 10 minutes leading up to the occultation the signal level dropped by 2 dB. This behavior is suggestive of weather effects; but DSS 65 has had consistently low SNR since we began occultations. Data from occultations #13 (1998/035 at DSS 45) and #16 (1998/037 at DSS 65) now appear to be out of sync with POCA values, meaning that Doppler cannot be corrected for supposedly deterministic effects (or cannot be corrected without extra work). Since occultation #1 had the same problem at DSS 15, all HEFs supporting radio occultations have now generated data that cannot be corrected.
