These are the first egress occultations obtained with MGS. Anomalies --------- The carrier frequency for the occultation beginning at 98/086-14:00:00 was about 100 Hz below the filter center and drifted another 100 Hz before disappearing. Joe Twicken says our "steering" stage worked well on the data, however. Carrier frequency for the three egress (LGA) occultations was as much as +/-250 Hz from the center of the passband (and drifting). Carrier frequency for the occultation beginning at 98/089-11:59:04 was about 50 Hz above the center of the passband. There is no "steering" evaluation for these later occultations yet. The data starting at 98/083-16:00:15 (DSS 15) and 98/086-02:23:50 (DSS 45) suffered from the "sawtooth" problem seen previously. The POCA and data samples appear to be out of synchronization. In the latter case, the loss of synchronization began just prior to occultation. Spurs can be seen about +/-200 Hz from the carrier in the data beginning at 98/089-11:59:04 (DSS 65) and about +/-250 Hz from the carrier in data beginning at 98/087-13:20:25 (DSS 65). Carrier-to-noise level for the DSS 65 ingress occultations is about 6-8 dB below the corresponding level at DSS 15 and DSS 45. Occultation 102 (98/088-12:49 at DSS 65) was lost when the RSST monitor overslept, the station had to reboot the DSP during pre-cal, and communications between the remote ops client and server were broken. Had the client-server link not been lost, this might have executed unattended since files/scripts had already been loaded.
