Miscellaneous ============= SOPC down time early in the week was documented in ISA Z46070. Apparent missing spacecraft and DSN monitor data from 98/098 queries was documented in ISA 46069. Missing data (subsequently retransmitted) from Occultation 123 was documented in ISA 46071 (by Trish Priest). Queries for 98/099 spacecraft engineering data were repeatedly rejected with messages "too many open files." Data Control said it appeared that data had been received from several sources and that the collection was badly fragmented. They said they would fix it in about half an hour. Two hours later the query was still failing, so we broke it into two parts -- one covering time before 06:00 and the other picking up about 06:10 and continuing to midnight. This seems to have worked, but we now have two sets of engineering data for 98/099 (and two summaries, as below). ISA 46083 was submitted. We have defined data type GDN, which will be SPK-format quick-look orbit solutions from the MOLA POD Team (Frank Lemoine). Software has been written to generate PDS minimal labels, and GDN files are now set up for handling in our normal data stream. They can be found in directory /users/z00/GDN on our magellan server. File GDN_SPK.txt, also found in that directory for at least the next few days, provides an overview of GDN files; it will be added to the DOCUMENT directory on raw data archive CDs. Joe Twicken notes that 3 of the 5 ingress occultations observed between #100 and #105 suffered from the sawtooth problem (two at DSS 65, one at DSS 34); the sixth occultation was lost because of setup problems. Data from the two DSS 54 occultations above (98/099) suffered from about 5-6 dB reduction in carrier-to-noise level compared with other complexes; the first and second files had 1 and 10 POCA time tag errors, respectively. Analysis -------- Dave Hinson has completed processing data from Occultation #98 using both the NAV Team's SPK file (an orbit reconstruction) and the GDN file from the MOLA POD Team. He finds the answers are not significantly different. Specifically, "Near-surface pressures and temperatures changed by 0.7 Pa and 0.2 K, respectively, or about 0.1%. These changes are smaller by a factor of about 4 than the statistical errors. The surface radius changed by only 14 m. The latitude and longitude (at ray periapsis) changed by amounts equivalent to about 300 m. Overall, this level of agreement is very reassuring. He is seeing strong gravity signatures during periapsis passes. These are as large as +/-4 mm/sec, compared with a noise level on the order of 0.45 mm/sec (one-sigma). Comparing data from 98/087 with data from 98/096 shows the same signature; the periapsis longitudes were 7.8 deg and 11.8 deg on P222 and P203, respectively.
