PDS_VERSION = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 1998-04-19 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA8109A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Miscellaneous ============= This is an abbreviated weekend report. Scripts for obtaining data automaticaly from the Solaris-era file server at JPL (the replacement for the present CDB) have been written and appear to work. Unfortunately, the file collection on the new server is not presently being updated as regularly as the collection on the CDB, so we have not been able to conduct realistic tests (or consider swapping to the new system for routine use) yet. File transfers will be over Internet (much faster than over our 56 kb NASCOM line) and the automatic checking of server holdings against our own inventory should result in a significant reduction in the work load for Stanford operators once the new system becomes operational. Only data after 11:35:36 were available in the NERT Cache as of the following midnight UTC; since surface occultation was at 11:32:39, we obtained no useful science data from this query. Trish Priest had the data retransmitted from the station the following evening. We now have data from the beginning of the recording period, but we are missing 181 records from about 11:35:00 until about 11:35:36 (the start time of data from our first query). This interval is about 2 minutes after the ingress occultation, so the loss is not likely to affect science processing. There have been several similar transmission problems in the past week. Predicted surface occultation on ingress #145 was at 98/108-10:13:09, but slew of the HGA off Earth point (in preparation for peripasis) began at 10:12:44. The first sidelobe of the antenna pattern is visible in the quick-look power vs. time plot; these data may not be very useful for science. Predicted surface occultation and beginning of the HGA maneuver were within a second of each other on #144i; there is no sign of an antenna sidelobe in the quick-look plot, but these data will have to be examined carefully so that subtle maneuver artifacts are not confused with atmospheric effects. Half of the data from the last four occultations has been acquired using DSS 65. Although signal levels continue to be ~5 dB low, we have seen NO POCA time tag errors -- a significant improvement over performance a week ago.
