PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 1999-02-05 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA9036A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Miscellaneous ============= To reduce data volume on our magellan.stanford.edu server, we will be removing mid-year DSN weather files and SPK and TCK files from MGS Cruise. The entire year's weather can be recovered from the final file released by the DSN in any given year, so there is little to be gained by having any but the last file on line. For the current year, all weather files will be maintained on line. Demand for Cruise SPK and TCK files is minimal; they can be recovered from the CD-WO archive if needed. Our server system was sized to support 2 years of MGS Mapping; we are coming close to 1.5 years of in-orbit operations even though we have no Mapping yet. These savings in data storage will be modest but useful. Frank Lemoine notes that TCK files covering as much as a month can be obtained via ftp from the NAIF server at JPL. NAIF has also previously announced availability of SPK files in which predicts, MGS NAV, and MOLA POD orbits have been merged to yield a "best" composite result. We have decided to leave our present collection of SPK, GDN, GDF, and TCK files on our server (with the exception noted in the previous paragraph and after deletion of large, obsolete predict files). Our collection is used regularly for data analysis on short time scales; users preferring the composite files can obtain them directly from NAIF. A signal was found in the data starting at 17:10:00, but only after much searching; the occultation was not captured. Data starting at 18:20:00 were not even recorded -- because of the expected frequency errors. Data beginning at 20:18:00 and 22:16:00 required manual frequency adjustments.
