General information about SPICE I-kernels
=========================================

   In the SPICE system, I-kernels describe how an instrument is mounted
   to the instrument platform. I-kernels may also contain instrument
   field-of-view specifications, principal axes specifications, etc.

   The I-kernel mounting alignment, platform orientation, along with
   knowledge of the spacecraft position (SP kernel) and instrument
   pointing (C kernel), allows the user to use SPICELIB to calculate
   the pointing of instruments. The data contained in I-kernel files
   can be accessed and manipulated by a collection of FORTRAN 77
   subroutines which are part of the SPICELIB library. It is used in
   conjunction with other data. The SPICELIB subroutines can be
   integrated into user application programs. The SPICE system toolkit
   for a number of computer platforms or information regarding how it
   can be obtained is located in the SOFTWARE subdirectory of the main
   directory of this dataset.

   Refer to the KERNEL.REQ document provided with the toolkit or
   available from the NAIF Node of PDS if SPICE toolkit is not included
   with this data set to get more information on how to access I-kernel
   data.

MGS I-kernels provided on this volume
=====================================

   The following MGS I-Kernel files are provided on this volume (only
   name portion of the file name is shown on the right; the extension of
   all file names is ".TI"):

           MGS_MAGER_V12   Magnetometer/Electron-Reflectometer (MAG/ER) IK
                           file containing instrument mounting alignment
                           and geometry parameters. This file also contains
                           all MAG/ER and some MGS Solar Array Frame
                           definitions;

           MGS_MHSA_V23 Mars Horizon Sensor Assembly (MHSA) IK file
                           containing instrument mounting alignment and
                           individual sensor geometry parameters. This file
                           also contains MHSA Frame definitions;

           MGS_MOC_V13 Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) IK file containing
                           instrument mounting alignment, FOV and optics
                           geometry parameters. This file also contains MOC
                           Frame definitions;

           MGS_MOLA_V22 Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter (MOLA) IK file
                           containing instrument mounting alignment and FOV
                           geometry parameters. This file also contains
                           MOLA Frame definition and coordinates of the
                           spacecraft center of mass and antenna phase
                           centers for a some spacecraft/antenna
                           configurations.

           MGS_TES_V12 Thermal Emission Spectrometer (TES) IK file
                           containing instrument mounting alignment, FOV
                           and optics geometry parameters. This file also
                           contains TES Frame definitions.

   All IK files provided in this data set contain actual data.

Kernel File Details
===================

   The most detailed description of the data in an IK file is
   provided in metadata included inside the description area of
   the file. This information can be viewed using any text editor
