PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT NOTE = "NIS BROWSE Directory information file" PUBLICATION_DATE = 2001-06-05 END_OBJECT = TEXT END ***** File BROWINFO.TXT This directory contains the browse facility for the NEAR Infrared Spectrometer archive. It consists of a single, HTML index table ('NISBROWSE.HTM') and the associated image files, stored under the 'MAPS/' subdirectory. The HTML and JPEG image files are accessible to the contemporary, popular browsers. Note, however, that the AVI animation file format is proprietary and may require a commercial viewer for display. Note also that selecting the image links from a browser will open the image files in a separate window. Finally, ***N.B. Files with unusual extensions are present in the directory tree under BROWSE/. Some of these files also have lines longer than 80 characters. - see BROWSE/BROWINFO.TXT - Brian Carcich NOTE ==== The label and manifest table ('MANIFEST.TAB') written for these files and the approach used in archiving this facility make use of prototype standards which have not yet been formally incorporated into the PDS system. For this reason, support for this facility within the PDS is extremely limited. Once the standards have been fully accepted and integrated into the PDS archives, the labels and files in this directory will be updated by the Small Bodies Node to reflect the final version of the standard. Structure ========= This facility consists of two parts: 1. An HTML file containing a table of NIS observations, listing parameters and links to various related images; and 2. A subdirectory structure containing the referenced images. The image subdirectory is subdivided based on the content of the images to be displayed. The main subdirectories and their contents are described below. COVERAGE/ --------- JPEG image files showing a simple cylindrical projection map of the coverage of Eros obtained by NIS during each set of observations. Coverage is defined as the number of NIS spectra occurring within each plate of a 22,540 plate shape model of Eros. EMI/ ---- JPEG image files showing a simple cylindrical projection map of the average emission angle of all NIS spectra within each plate that is covered by NIS during each set of observations. Emission angle was determined relative to a 22,540 plate shape model of Eros. INC/ ---- JPEG image files showing a simple cylindrical projection map of the average incidence angle of all NIS spectra within each plate that is covered by NIS during each set of observations. Incidence angle was determined relative to a 22,540 plate shape model of Eros. IOF/ ---- JPEG image files showing a simple cylindrical projection map of the average I/F at 950 nm of all NIS spectra within each plate that is covered by NIS during each set of observations. I/F is radiance factor, and is compiled for each spectrum in the NIS Level 2 released PDS archive. MOVIES/ ------- AVI format animation files showing a simulation of each NIS observation of Eros. Predicted NIS footprints were projected onto a shape model of Eros using the best available NEAR trajectory and instrument pointing information as of the end of the mission. The "SNR" parameter in the upper left displays a measure of the actual NIS signal level in the Ge detectors for each spectrum. PHASE/ ------ JPEG image files showing a simple cylindrical projection map of the average phase angle of all NIS spectra within each plate that is covered by NIS during each set of observations. Phase angle was determined relative to a 22,540 plate shape model of Eros. PREDICT/ -------- JPEG image files showing a shape model representation of Eros and predicted representative footprints for the NIS and/or MSI fields of view for each set of observations. RES/ ---- JPEG image files showing a simple cylindrical projection map of the average spatial resolution of all NIS spectra within each plate that is covered by NIS during each set of observations. Resolution is defined as the length, in km, of the short axis of the NIS narrow field of view, and was determined using a 22,540 plate shape model of Eros.
