These data cubes are the uncalibrated data numbers as seen by the VIMS detectors. PARAMETERS The integration period or exposure time of each VIMS pixel is a configurable parameter. The actual exposure time of the VIMS pixel is defined in the detached PDS label for each cube. The VIMS spatial resolution is approximately 0.5x0.5 mrads /pixel. The measured values in the cubes are data numbers (DN) or the number of counts measured by the detector. PROCESSING The only data processing performed on these cubes was the reformatting of the raw EDRs into ISIS compliant format. These data cubes are effectively uncalibrated and unprocessed data, delivered to the PDS in the same format they are received by the VIMS Operations Center. DATA There is only one data type associated with this volume, the raw uncalibrated DNs. ANCILLARY DATA The ancillary data required to apply a radiometric and geometric correction to this data set are: 1. Cassini-NAIF Kernels - Supplied by the Cassini Project. 2. VIMS flat field cubes - included in this data set volume. (ir_flatfield.qub,ir_hires_flatfield.qub, ir_nyquist_flatfield.qub,vis_flatfield.qub, vis_hires_flatfield.qub) 3. VIMS performance vector table cubes - included in this data set volume. (ir_perf.qub,vis_perf.qub) 4. VIMS wavecal cube containing: (h*c) --------------------------- (lambda*A*omega*delta_lambda) where lambda is the wavelength in microns, A is the area of the primary mirror in square centimeters, omega is the solid angle subtended by a pixel in steradians, and delta_lambda is width of the spectel. - included in this data set volume. (wavecal.cub) 5. VIMS solar spectrum cube - included in this data set volume. (solar.qub) 6. VIMS Vis instrument dark model tables - included in this data set volume. (vis_hires_dark_model.tab, vis_lowres_dark_model.tab) COORDINATE SYSTEM Each pixel in the VIMS IR and Visual channel has a pointing vector associated with it. The vectors, which can be found in item 4 of the Ancillary Data section, are relative to VIMS reference frame. It should be noted here that the unit vector table and rotation matrix listed in item 4, 5 of the Ancillary Data section, respectively, assume the following about the VIMS reference frame: 1. The boresight of each channel is at pixel x=31.5, z=31.5. 2. The boresight unit vector of each channel is defined as x=0, y= -1, z=0. SOFTWARE The software to apply a radiometric and geometric correction to these data has been supplied with the data set. This software requires the use of: IDL (Interactive Data Language from RSI) http://rsinc.com/ ISIS (Integrated Software for Imagers and Spectrometers from the USGS) http://isis.astrogeology.usgs.gov/Isis2/isis-bin/isis.cgi C compiler http://gcc.gnu.org/ MEDIA/FORMAT The VIMS archive will be delivered to the PDS Central Imagining Node via electronic DVD images. The DVD image will contain binary and ASCII text files." CONFIDENCE_LEVEL_NOTE = " CONFIDENCE LEVEL OVERVIEW This is a good data set. Known problems are minor. REVIEW This archival data set was examined by a peer review panel prior to its acceptance by the Planetary Data System (PDS). The peer review was conducted in accordance with PDS procedures. Some data have been studied in detail by the VIMS science team. These data appear to be of good quality. DATA COVERAGE AND QUALITY Due to the orbit of Cassini around Saturn during most of its mapping operations, parts of the orbital coverage will have higher resolution and higher SNR than others. During the planning stages every effort was made to ensure the best data coverage throughout the Cassini mission. The VIMS operations center has provided checks to assure the data quality. However, mistakes can and will occur. The user of these data should review the errata.txt file that describes anomalies that may affect the quality of the data. LIMITATIONS The data have not been calibrated and/or geometrically corrected."
