ABSTRACT_DESC = "Mars Exploration Rover 1 Pancam IOF Reduced Data Record" DATA_SET_DESC = " Data Set Overview ================= Version 2.0 of the Pancam IOF Reduced Data Record was generated using new calibration data and proceduers. Details of the new calibration are found in the file PANCAM_IOF_V2_SUMMARY.TXT in the DOCUMENT directory. The remainder of this text is carried over from the Version 1.0 data set description. This data set contains Pancam reflectance products known as 'IOF' files. IOF is defined as the ratio of the bidirectional reflectance of a surface to that of a normally illuminated perfectly diffuse surface. This ratio is also known as the 'radiance factor'. IOF is equal to I/(pi*F) where I is equal to the measured scene radiance, and pi*F is the solar irradiance at the top of the Martian atmosphere for a given Pancam bandpass. IOF products are useful in that they place the Pancam data in the same context as laboratory or telescopic reflectance measurements or radiance factor data from other Mars orbiter or landed missions. See BELLETAL2006 for the assumptions and methods used in generating the Pancam IOF products contained in this data set. IOF products have attached PDS and VICAR labels, along with the binary image data. IOF image data are stored as scaled 2-byte integer values rather than real IOF floating point values. Conversion of the integer values stored in the data products to real floating point values requires the use of the values of the RADIANCE_OFFSET and RADIANCE_SCALING_FACTOR keywords in the PDS label. The real floating point values of IOF can be computed using the equation IOF = RADO + RADSF * IntVal where IOF is the true IOF value, RADO is the value of the RADIANCE_OFFSET keyword, RADSF is the value of the RADIANCE_SCALING_FACTOR, and IntVal is the integer value stored in the image file. Processing ========== MER Pancam IOFs are considered Level 3 (Calibrated Data equivalent to NASA Level 1-A). IOF image products are generated by the Athena Pancam Science Team from the Science radiometrically calibrated products (PDS data set: MER1-M-PANCAM-3-RADCAL-RDR-V1.0) using the methods described in BELLETAL2006.
