ABSTRACT_DESC = " This data set is a survey of the spectra of small (< 1 km) fresh craters on the lunar surface observed by the Spectral Profiler instrument on the JAXA Kaguya lunar orbiter. For each spectrum, the archive includes the crater latitude and longitude, FeO and OMAT values of the location, and the estimated mineralogical composition of the site. The wavelengths are a subset of those provided in the JAXA archive, culled of overlapping channels." DATA_SET_DESC = " Data Set Overview ================= The data contained in this archive are a survey of the spectra of small fresh craters on the lunar surface less than 1 km in diameter using a subset of the Spectral Profiler data published in LUCEYETAL2014B. As lighting conditions continuously changed during the course of the mission, the data were confined to beta angles (the angle between the plane of the spacecraft orbit and the Moon-Sun vector) less than 45 degrees, and latitudes within 50 degrees of the equator to capture optimum lighting. These conditions were met several times during the course of the mission; the data used here are those obtained during revolutions (orbits) in the range 4124 and 4999. The data were photometrically corrected using the constants of YOKOTAETAL2011 with the 'high albedo' parameters. The archive contains 8183 records (separate spectra) of a total of 3622 unique craters (some larger craters or those with more extensive ejecta were sampled by more than one spectrum). The record also contains: the latitude and longitude of the spectrum as reported in the JAXA archive; the revolution number; a flag indicating the crater is represented by a single spectrum (value = 0) or by several sequential spectra (value=1); the FeO content of the location as using the algorithm of LAWRENCEETAL2002; the OMAT value of the location using the algorithm of LUCEYETAL2000; a six element vector that contains the estimated mineralogical composition of the site as presented in LUCEYETAL2014B; and the spectrum consisting of 153 spectral channels. The wavelengths are a subset of those provided in the JAXA archive culled of overlapping channels. Data beyond 1.7 microns are not usable because of calibration issues that have been subsequently overcome. Processing ========== Data for small craters were isolated in a two-step process. First the OMAT parameter of LUCEYETAL2000 was calculated to produce candidate immature spectra by imposing a cutoff of 0.3 or greater. Each candidate was then visually inspected using Multiband Imager data and classified as a crater less than 1 km in diameter or 'other.' Only data classified as small craters are contained in this archive. " CONFIDENCE_LEVEL_NOTE = " The data contained in this archive were obtained from the SELENE Data Archive, a website maintained by the Japanese Space Agency JAXA. The individual records have been photometrically corrected and redundant spectral channels have been removed. Spectral reflectance data at wavelengths beyond 1.7 microns are not valid in this archive. A corrected version of data at these wavelengths was not available at the time of processing these data. Data values of -99 indicate invalid data entries.
