    <description>The Single-channel Polarimeter, operational since August 1969 at the Kitt Peak 36- and 50-inch telescopes, features a rapidly rotating polarizer and employs a star-chopping technique to manage sky brightness. Its design, inspired by a device from the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory, includes a moveable filter, a Lyot depolarizer, and a CuSO4-5H2O crystal to eliminate red leaks. The observing process involves switching the star between two diaphragms to mitigate beam differences, with an oscilloscope aiding in data collection.
