Apollo 15 Lunar Surface Experiments Package Solar Wind Spectrometer 28-Second-Resolution and 1-Hour-Average ASCII Data Bundle Overview ======== This PDS4 bundle (urn:nasa:pds:a15sws_solar_wind_28s_1hr) contains Apollo 15 Solar Wind Spectrometer data migrated from the PDS3 volumes A15A-L-SWS-3-SOLAR-WIND-28S-RES-V1.0 and A15A-L-SWS-4-SOLAR-WIND-1HR-AVG-V1.0. This data set contains daily tables of time ordered, 28-second-resolution plasma parameters, mainly of the solar wind, as observed on the Moon at the Apollo 15 ALSEP site by the Apollo 15 Solar Wind Spectrometer (SWS) from 31 July 1971 through 30 June 1972. This data set also contains tables of time ordered, hourly averaged plasma parameters, mainly of the solar wind, as observed on the Moon at the Apollo 15 ALSEP site by the Apollo 15 Solar Wind Spectrometer (SWS) from 31 July 1971 through 30 June 1972. This bundle contains the following collections: data: Apollo 15 SWS 28-s-resolution and 1-hr-average ASCII data products (acquired from 1971-07-31 to 1972-06-30) document: -description of the Apollo 15 SWS 28-s ASCII data products -landing site maps -traverse routes -Geocentric Solar Ecliptic Coordinates -local solar position -ALSEP vertical look directions -a SWS plasma data report -descriptions of the Apollo 15 mission -descriptions of Apollo 15 ALSEP -descriptions of the Apollo 15 Solar Wind Spectrometer Data Products and PDS Labels ============================ Every Apollo 15 Lunar Surface Experiments Package Solar Wind Spectrometer 28-s data product is accompanied by a PDS label in a file with the same name as the data file, but with the extension ".xml", as PDS labels are written in XML (Extended Markup Language). The labels may be viewed in a text editor or web browser, preferably one that applies special formatting to XML files to make them more readable. The labels may also be read by software that can interpret XML. Every Apollo 15 Lunar Surface Experiments Package Solar Wind Spectrometer 1-h-averaged data product is accompanied by a PDS label in a file with the same name as the data file, but with the extension ".xml", as PDS labels are written in XML (Extended Markup Language). The labels may be viewed in a text editor or web browser, preferably one that applies special formatting to XML files to make them more readable. The labels may also be read by software that can interpret XML. Apollo 15 Lunar Surface Experiments Package Solar Wind Spectrometer 28-s and 1-h-averaged data files are in ASCII tables. All these data files may be read using the PDS4 Viewer tool. Documentation ============= Chapter 10 "The Solar-Wind Spectrometer Experiment" of the Apollo 15 Preliminary Science Report in the document collection describes the instrument, instrument deployment, and observations of the Apollo 15 Solar Wind Spectrometer Experiment. This dataset is described in more detail in "dataset_description.txt" in the document collection. ============== This bundle was created and archived by the Geosciences Node of the Planetary Data System.
