Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) LOLA Calibrated and Derived Data
Planetary Data System (PDS) Archive Bundle

Overview
========

This bundle contains the following collections:

  data_calibrated: Calibrated (RDR) LOLA data products
  data_gridded: Gridded LOLA data products
  data_radr: Radiometric LOLA data products
  data_shadr: Spherical harmonic topographic LOLA data products
  document_catalog: PDS3 catalog files with PDS4 labels

  miscellaneous: LOLA PDS3 index file collection
  
This collections of browse products will be added with a later data release:
  
  browse_calibrated: Browse products for calibrated LOLA data
  browse_gridded: Browse products for gridded LOLA data
  browse_radr: Browse products for RADR LOLA data

LOLA data were originally archived in PDS using the PDS3 standard. These data are
being converted to the PDS4 standard in bundle urn:nasa:pds:lro_lola_rdr.

Data Products and PDS Labels
============================

Every LOLA data product is accompanied by a PDS label in a file with 
the same name as the data file, but with the extension ".xml", as PDS 
labels are written in XML (Extended Markup Language). The labels may 
be viewed in a text editor or web browser, preferably one that applies 
special formatting to XML files to make them more readable. The labels 
may also be read by software that can interpret XML. 

LOLA calibrated data files are in binary tables with aligned columns. The
derived data files are either ASCII tables or binary images. All these data
files may be read using the PDS4 Viewer tool. Some gridded products in the PDS3
archive are available as JPEG2000 files. No PDS4 labels are provided for these
because JPEG000 is not an acceptable PDS4 storage format. However, the JPEG2000
files are still included as part of the PDS3 archive.

The original PDS3 labels are also included in this bundle. These labels have the
same name as the data file, but with the extension of ".lbl". They have a
keyword=value format and can be viewed in any text editor.

Documentation
=============
       
The LOLA Reduced Data Record (RDR) Software Interface Specification (SIS)
in the document collection describes the contents, format, and structure of all
LOLA calibrated and derived data products.

The ERRATA.TXT file in the root directory of this dataset is a PDS3 file and is
not part of the PDS4 bundle. This file is no longer being updated. Future
updates will appear in the release_notes product located in the document
collection of this bundle.
