Magellan Altimetry and Radiometry Composite Data Record (ARCDR) Archive Bundle Overview -------- This PDS4 archive bundle contains Magellan Altimetry and Radiometry Composite (ARCDR) products restored from the PDS dataset generated by the Magellan project in the 1990s and distributed on a set of 19 CD-ROMs. The original data products are binary data files stored using VAX data formats. The restored PDS4 bundle has converted the VAX format to IEEE binary format that is widely used by current computer systems. The PDS4 bundle also contains a number of browse products for each ARCDR product that are plots of selected parameters from the binary data files such as radius, slope, brightness temperature, etc. The bundle contains a number of documents, some derived from the original CD-ROMS and a new user guide, which includes information about how the PDS4 bundle was generated. This bundle contains the following collections. Browse - Plots of selected parameters from the ARCDR data files stored as JPEG images Data - There are three data collections in the bundle: altimetry, radiometry, orbit header Document - a set of documents related to the ARCDR dataset, including a user guide Miscellaneous - several index files about ARCDR products Data Products and PDS4 Labels ----------------------------- Every PDS4 data product is accompanied by a PDS label in a file with the same name as the data file, but with the extension ".xml", as PDS4 labels are written in XML (Extended Markup Language). The labels may be viewed in a text editor or web browser, preferably one that applies special formatting to XML files to make them more readable. The labels may also be read by software that can interpret XML. --------------- This bundle was created and archived by the Geosciences Node of the Planetary Data System.
