PDS4 Bundle for Magellan Surface Characteristics Vector Data Record (SCVDR) Data This bundle contains Magellan data migrated from the PDS3 volume. The Surface Characteristics Vector Data Record (SCVDR) is an orbit-by-orbit reduction of Magellan scattering and emission measurements carried out at Stanford University. The SCVDR includes near-nadir scattering functions obtained by numerical inversion from altimetry (ALT) echoes, results (e.g., rms surface slopes and Fresnel reflectivity) from fitting analytic functions to those inversions, scattering function segments at oblique incidence angles derived from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) echoes, and estimates of surface emissivity derived from thermal microwave radiometry (RAD) measurements. The SCVDR is one of several inputs to the Global Vector Data Record (GVDR), a gridded summary of scattering results, also produced at Stanford. The bundle is organized into the following collections: data directory - data_anf collection: Altimetry Inversion Files (ANFnnnnn_v) - data_edf collection: Emissivity Data Files (EDFnnnnn_v) - data_gmf collection: Geometry Matrix Files (GMFnnnnn_v) - data_nff collection: Altimetry Inversion Fit Files (NFFnnnnn_v) - data_ohf collection: Orbit Header Files (OHFnnnnn_v) - data_oif collection: Oblique Sinusoidal Image Files (OIFnnnnn_v) - data_sif collection: Sinusoidal Image Files (SIFnnnnn_v) Data are divided into subdirectories by spacecraft orbit. The subdirectory naming pattern is xxxx_yyyy where xxxx is the four-digit value of the first orbit and yyyy is the value of the last orbit for data in that subdirectory. document directory - document collection: documents describing the SCVDR dataset miscellaneous directiory - miscellaneous collection: data product catalog Each product in this bundle is described by a PDS4 label in a separate file with the same name as the file described by the label but with the extension .xml. PDS4 labels are XML (eXtended Markup Language) files that conform to the PDS4 Information Model XML schema at https://pds.nasa.gov/pds4/schema/released/. The PDS4 labels are best viewed in an XML-aware text editor, and may be used by software that can manipulate XML documents. This bundle was created and archived by the Geosciences Node of the Planetary Data System. Questions about this bundle may be directed to geosci@email.wustl.edu.
