Radio Science Subsystem (RSS) Derived Data MESSENGER Mission to Mercury This bundle contains the following collections: data - derived data products document - the RSS RDR/OCC Software Interface Specification and other relevant documents miscellaneous - the PDS3 index table for this archive This PDS4 bundle has been migrated from a PDS3 data volume. For details, see the document geo_notes_and_errata.pdf in the document collection. Each document and data product in this bundle is described by a PDS4 label in a separate file with the same name but with the extension XML. PDS4 labels are XML (eXtended Markup Language) files that conform to the PDS4 Information Model XML schema at https://pds.nasa.gov/pds4/schema/released/. They are best viewed in an XML-aware text editor, and may be used by software that can manipulate XML documents. The MESSENGER RSS derived product collection consists of products derived from radio science measurements made using the MESSENGER spacecraft and Earth-based stations of the NASA Deep Space Network (DSN). The collection includes three type of products: 1) High-resolution spherical harmonic models of Mercury's gravity field derived from raw radio tracking data; 2) Measurements of Mercury's radius at several locations around the planet derived from radio occultations; and 3) Spherical harmonic models of Mercury's surface shape from both Mercury Laser Altimeter (MLA) data and occultation data. Code refers to the product type abbreviation used in the file name. Code Product Type Description Storage Format OCC Occultation This product type contains estimates of the radius of ASCII Summary Mercury derived from DSN tracking of the radio Delimited frequency data from the MESSENGER spacecraft. Table SHADR Spherical This product type contains spherical harmonic models ASCII Table Harmonics ASCII of several different degrees and order for the Mercury gravity field and planet's surface shape expressed in a set of ASCII tables. SHBDR Spherical The product type contains spherical harmonic models Binary Table Harmonics Binary of several different degrees and order for the Mercury gravity field expressed in a set of binary tables. This bundle was created and archived by the Geosciences Node of the Planetary Data System. Questions about this bundle may be directed to geosci@wunder.wustl.edu. Notes for Version 2.0, 2019-08-22 The following five products were added to the data collection of the bundle.
