## Introduction
This document contains information pertaining to the Voyager 2 Magnetometer
Neptune Encounter data. This bundle includes averaged magentometer data
in Heliographic and Neptune Longitude System (NLS) coordinates, in
both ASCII and binary formats.

This bundle is organized into several collections, including:

- data-hg-1.92s-asc (urn:nasa:pds:vg2-mag-nep:data-hg-1.92s-asc)
- data-hg-1.92s-bin (urn:nasa:pds:vg2-mag-nep:data-hg-1.92s-bin)

- data-sc-field-asc (urn:nasa:pds:vg2-mag-nep:data-sc-field-asc)
- data-sc-field-bin (urn:nasa:pds:vg2-mag-nep:data-sc-field-bin)

PDS4 documentation is in XML format. There is an lblx label for every product
in the archive.

## VG2 Neptune Magnetometer Heliographic Coordinates 1.92s Resampled Rate Data

- data-hg-1.92s-asc (urn:nasa:pds:vg2-mag-nep:data-hg-1.92s-asc)
- data-hg-1.92s-bin (urn:nasa:pds:vg2-mag-nep:data-hg-1.92s-bin)

These collections contain data from the Low Field Magnetometer (LFM)
during the inbound Neptune encounter beginning in the solar wind
and continuing until the first magnetopause crossing. The
magnetometer are given in Heliographic coordinates and the data have
been averaged from the 60ms instrument sample rate to a 1.92 second resampled rate.
These collections provide the data in ASCII and binary formats, respectively.

## VG2 Neptune Magnetometer Heliographic Coordinates 9.60s Resampled Rate Data

- data-hg-9.60s-asc (urn:nasa:pds:vg2-mag-nep:data-hg-9.60s-asc)
- data-hg-9.60s-bin (urn:nasa:pds:vg2-mag-nep:data-hg-9.60s-bin)

These collections contain data from the Low Field Magnetometer (LFM)
during the inbound Neptune encounter beginning in the solar wind
and continuing until the first magnetopause crossing. The
magnetometer are given in Heliographic coordinates and the data have
been averaged from the 1.92 second averages to a 9.6 second resampled rate.
These collections provide the data in ASCII and binary formats, respectively.

## VG2 Neptune Magnetometer Heliographic Coordinates 48s Resampled Rate Data

- data-hg-48s-asc (urn:nasa:pds:vg2-mag-nep:data-hg-48s-asc)
- data-hg-48s-bin (urn:nasa:pds:vg2-mag-nep:data-hg-48s-bin)

These collections contain data from the Low Field Magnetometer (LFM)
during the inbound Neptune encounter beginning in the solar wind
and continuing until the first magnetopause crossing. The
magnetometer are given in Heliographic coordinates and the data have
been averaged from the resample 9.6 second sample rate to a 48.0 second rate.
These collections provide the data in ASCII and binary formats, respectively.

## VG2 Neptune Magnetometer Neptune Longitude System (NLS) Coordinates 12s Resampled Rate Data

- data-nls-12s-asc (urn:nasa:pds:vg2-mag-nep:data-nls-12s-asc)
- data-nls-12s-bin (urn:nasa:pds:vg2-mag-nep:data-nls-12s-bin)

These collections contain data from the Low Field Magnetometer (LFM) during the
Neptune encounter from 1989-08-24 to 1989-08-26 when VG2 was in Neptune's magnetosphere.
The magnetometer data contain magnetic field data resampled at 12 second resolution in
Neptune Longitude System (NLS) coordinates. These collections provide the data in ASCII and binary formats, respectively.

## VG2 Neptune MAG Spacecraft Magnetic Field Data

- data-sc-field-asc (urn:nasa:pds:vg2-mag-nep:data-sc-field-asc)
- data-sc-field-bin (urn:nasa:pds:vg2-mag-nep:data-sc-field-bin)

These collections contain the derived spacecraft magnetic field at a 48 second sample rate.
These data provide zero level offsets used in the data processing. Spacecraft field data is provided in spacecraft coordinates in both ASCII and binary formats.

This is a PDS4 archive of the following PDS3 data set:

- VG2-N-MAG-4-RDR-HGCOORDS-1.92SEC-V2.0 [DOI:10.17189/81v3-p346](https://doi.org/10.17189/81v3-p346)
- VG2-N-MAG-4-RDR-HGCOORDS-9.6SEC-V2.0 [DOI:10.17189/rm6t-h085](https://doi.org/10.17189/rm6t-h085)
- VG2-N-MAG-4-SUMM-HGCOORDS-48SEC-V1.0 [DOI:10.17189/1519974](https://doi.org/10.17189/1519974)
- VG2-N-MAG-4-SUMM-NLSCOORDS-12SEC-V1.0 [DOI:10.17189/1519975](https://doi.org/10.17189/1519975).

The collections were originally archived under PDS3 in the following volumes:

- USA_NASA_PDS_VG2_9048
- USA_NASA_PDS_VG2_9049
- USA_NASA_PDS_VG2_9050
- USA_NASA_PDS_VG2_9051
- VG_1001

Under the PDS3 standard all archives were self contained and could in
principle be stored in a single file system (disk, CD-ROM, etc.). PDS4
takes advantage of the network capabilities that allow archives to be
distributed. As a result, some of the documents and metadata previously
stored in the PDS3 catalog files are no longer maintained locally, but are
maintained in a central repository. Those files are referenced by unique
PDS logical identifiers that are included in the document collection
inventory.

## Errata

An errata file has been included in the document collection. Known and
additional issues are and will be noted in this file.
