Radio Science Subsystem (RSS) Raw Data NEAR Mission to Eros and Mathilde This PDS4 bundle has been migrated from the PDS3 data volumes NEAR_A_RSS_1_5_EROS_FLYBY_V1_0, NEAR_A_RSS_1_5_EROS_ORBIT_V1_0, NEAR_A_RSS_1_5_MATHILDE_V1_0. For more detailed information see the Software Interface Specification near_rs_raw_sis.docx/ near_rs_raw_sis.pdf in the document collection. Each document and data product in this bundle is described by a PDS4 label in a separate file with the same name but with the extension XML. PDS4 labels are XML (eXtended Markup Language) files that conform to the PDS4 Information Model XML schema at https://pds.nasa.gov/pds4/schema/released/. They are best viewed in an XML-aware text editor, and may be used by software that can manipulate XML documents. The NEAR RSS raw product bundle consists of radio science measurements made using the NEAR spacecraft and Earth-based stations of the NASA Deep Space Network (DSN). The bundle includes six collections: Code Product Type Description Storage Format data_eop EOP Earth Orientation Parameters ASCII data_ion ION Ionospheric Media Calibration ASCII data_nmlmodl Numerical Model nominal set of namelist parameters used to define ASCII physical characteristics of the spacecraft's motion and tracking observable used by the JPL orbit determination software suite data_odf ODF Orbit Determination File Binary data_paramsum Solution Pages Summary of data arc, physical model nominal and ASCII estimated parameter values, along with formal uncertainties data_tro TRO Tropospheric Media Calibration ASCII All NEAR geometry data are in the form of SPICE kernels and are located at https://naif.jpl.nasa.gov/pub/naif/pds/data/near-a-spice-6-v1.0/nearsp_1000/ The data set contains: ik -- SPICE system for providing instrument orientation to spacecraft. ck -- SPICE system for providing attitude information for spacecraft and instrument platforms. ek -- EROS shape model kernels fk -- frames kernel directory. This directory is not used in NEAR lsk -- Leapsecond kernel for providing information to convert between UTC times and any other time system. pck -- Models used for rotations of solar system bodies and shapes (constants and matrices of planets and satellites). sclk -- Spacecraft clock kernel modeled against the time system TDT (Terrestrial Dynamical Time). spk -- NAIF ephemeris system - planet and spacecraft positions. plt -- SPICE plate model. grav -- gravity data. For descriptions of the NEAR mission and spacecraft, see the NEAR mission documentation bundle at: https://sbnarchive.psi.edu/pds4/near/near_mission/document/ This bundle was created by the Radio Science Sub-Node of the Ring Moon Systems Node of the Planetary Data System. It was archived by the Small Bodies Node Node of the Planetary Data System. Questions about this bundle may be directed to rssn@jpl.nasa.gov. This data set was was extracted from the original NREROS_2001 DVD-ROM volume which contained five complete data sets. The information below comprises the AAREADME.TXT file from that volume. Directories and files not relevant to this particular data set have been removed. The index file has been edited to remove references to files not in this data set. The NEAR Science Data Center (SDC) archives NEAR science data to the Small Bodies Node (SBN) of the Planetary Data System (PDS), as specified in the NEAR Project Archive Generation, Validation and Transfer Plan (February 1998). NEAR data sets contain data from only one instrument and one mission phase. Mission phases for data sets are defined in the table below. Each data set contains the data from a range of days and all supporting directories. The data sets may span multiple volumes. The GEOMETRY data containing the SPICE ephemerides, attitude and other files are delivered in a separate data set. This data set is a part of the NEAR final archive delivery as described by the NEAR PDS Data Archive Plan. The Plan also describes the higher level data products, which will become separate PDS data sets. Volume Format ============= This volume has been formatted according to the ISO-9660 level 2 Interchange Standard. This volume does not contain any Extended Attribute Records (XAR). Thus, some VAX/VMS users may have problems accessing files on this volume. File Formats ============ All text documents and other meta information files such as descriptions, PDS object definitions and detached PDS labels have a carriage return (ASCII 13) and a line feed character (ASCII 10) at the end of the record. This allows the files to be read by MS-DOS/Windows, Unix, and VMS operating systems. Volume Contents =============== Files on this volume are organized into a set of subdirectories below the top-level directory. The following table shows the structure of these directories. See the *INFO.TXT files in each directory for specific information on the files in the directory. Volume directory structure: |-AAREADME.TXT The text version of the AAREADME file. |-ERRATA.TXT Text information describing data errors/anomalies. |-VOLDESC.CAT Description of the contents of this volume. |-CATALOG-- |-EROSFB -- |-EROSORB - |-EROSGRAV- |-EROSHAPE- |-MATHFB -- |-DOCUMENT |-DOCUMENT-GRAVITY |-GEOMETRY- |-INDEX--- Description ----------------------------- CATALOG Templates for the mission, instrument host, instrument, and data set. DATA The radio data is provided in raw and derived versions. The data is organized by mission phase. (EROSFB,EROSORB,EROSGRAV,EROSHAPE,MATHFB) DOCUMENT Instrument document and solution for gravity field manuscript. GEOMETRY This directory contains only a GEOMINFO.TXT file. A separate GEOMETRY volume contains all of the SPICE kernels in text transfer format for the mission phase and the supporting documentation.
