            <description>
This collection contains a set of raw real-time and science
histogram data in .FIT format for the New Horizons Solar Wind Around Pluto (SWAP)
instrument during the PLUTO CRUISE mission phase. These data were migrated from the
                PDS3 dataset: NH-A-SWAP-2-PLUTOCRUISE-V3.0.

After being turned off for the first 460+ days of Pluto Cruise,
SWAP operations were sporadic and mostly Science, alternating with
Channel Electron Multiplier (CEM) gain tests on 2008-09-28 and
                2008-10-27 (2008-272 and 2008-301).

During cruise observations the spacecraft is in the heliosphere
and consequently measures solar wind protons (H+), alpha particles
(He++) and interstellar pickup ions (primarily H+). The alphas
typically have twice the energy per charge of the protons, and the
interstellar pickup cutoff occurs at four times the energy per
charge of the solar wind protons.

From 2011 through 2014, analysis of spacecraft power margins
indicated that SWAP could operate during hibernation; prior to
that time SWAP was normally off during hibernation. So after
2010, SWAP collected science data for most of the rest of the
Pluto Cruise mission phase, with breaks for ACO periods 5-8 for
                instrument monitoring, testing and characterization.

Labels were redesigned during migration using the .FIT header and PDS3 .LBL
files, but the data files are unchanged from their PDS3 version.
