<type>Instrument</type>

Instrument consisting of three 3He gas proportional counters: one is bare, one is
covered in thin (0.5mm) Cadmium wrap, and the third is covered in a 1-cm-thick polyethylene wrap. Each sensor operates in an identical manner wherein a neutron can be absorbed by 3He atoms in the gas volume producing a proton and a triton with a total energy of 765 keV. The proton and triton deposit their kinetic energy in the gas volume, producing a signal corresponding to 764 keV that serves as an unambiguous indicator of a detected neutron. The data from each sensor has the same format and consists of 256 channels that are accumulated during each accumulation period.

The three elemnents are arranged in an orthogonal configuration, thereby measuring all three components of the applied magnetic field.
