NAME Apollo 12 ALSEP ARCSAV SIDE/CCIG Raw Cleaned ASCII Data Bundle
TYPE Archive
DESCRIPTION This bundle contains fixed-width ASCII files of daily, raw cleaned measurements acquired by Suprathermal Ion Detector Experiment (SIDE) and the Cold Cathode Ion Gage Experiment (CCIG; also known as the Cold Cathode Gage Experiment) at the Apollo 12 landing site for the time span of 03 April through 01 July 1975. These data were extracted from NASA's original Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package (ALSEP) archive tapes, also known as ARCSAV tapes.

PRIMARY RESULT DESCRIPTION Measurements of the differential energy spectrum of positive ions having energies from 0.2 to 48.6 eV per unit charge and 10 to 3500 eV per unit charge as acquired, respectively, by the mass analyzer detector and the total ion detector of the Apollo 12 Suprathermal Ion Detector Experiment (SIDE); and measurements of density and temperature for pressures ranging from 10^-6 torr to 10^-12 torr as acquired by the Apollo 12 Cold Cathode Ion Gage (CCIG) experiment. The scientific objectives of these experiments were to measure the flux, number density, velocity and energy per unit charge of positive ions near the lunar surface, and to detect any lunar ambient atmospheric pressure. The time span for these data is 03 April through 01 July 1975. The CCIG data are not reliable because that instrument failed on 19 November 1969.
