| DESCRIPTION |
The design of the APXS instrument was based on the interaction of alpha particles and X-rays with matter. It has two operational modes: Alpha mode, which measured Rutherford backscattering; and X-ray mode, which measure alpha-particle and x-ray induced x-ray backscattering.
