| DESCRIPTION |
The McMath-Pierce main telescope's third mirror directs light to an observing room and can be positioned in three different locations. Two of these positions accommodate vacuum spectrographs?one 18 meters deep and the other 4 meters deep?which allow for image rotation compensation due to a heliostat. The third position features a static optical table without image rotation correction and is seldom utilized.
