| NAME |
Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity Miniature Thermal Emission Spectrometer
|
| TYPE |
Spectrometer
|
| DESCRIPTION |
The Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity (MER 1) Miniature Thermal Emission Spectrometer (Mini-TES) provided remote measurements of mineralogy and thermophysical properties of the scene surrounding the Rover and guided her to key targets for detailed in-situ measurements by other Rover experiments. It operated by measuring the infrared radiation emitted by surface materials, identifying key minerals based on their thermal emission spectra. Mini-TES provided valuable data on the geology of Mars, contributing to the understanding of past water activity and environmental conditions.
