NAME The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter

DESCRIPTION The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) was launched in 2009 along with its companion spacecraft, the Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS), into a direct insertion trajectory to the Moon. It orbits the Moon in a polar orbit. LRO includes several science instruments as part of its payload: Cosmic Ray Telescope for the Effects of Radiation (CRaTER), Diviner Lunar Radiometer Experiment (DLRE), Lyman-Alpha Mapping Project (LAMP), Lunar Exploration Neutron Detector (LEND), Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter (LOLA), and Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC).
