DESCRIPTION The United Kingdom Infrared Telescope (UKIRT) is a 3.8-meter infrared telescope located at the summit of Mauna Kea, Hawai?i. Operational since 1979, it is one of the largest telescopes dedicated solely to infrared observations, covering wavelengths from 1 to 30 micrometers. Equipped with instruments like the Wide Field Camera (WFCAM), UKIRT has conducted extensive sky surveys, including the UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS), contributing significantly to our understanding of the universe.
