Data Set Overview : This data set is intended to include all reported timings of observed asteroid occultation events through 1998, as well as all reliable asteroid occultation diameters published through 2002, and was collected by David W. Dunham. The diameters from observations made through March 1988 were collected in Millis and Dunham (1989) [MILLIS&DUNHAM1989] Asteroids II pp. 148-170, and those from observations made from April 1988 through 2002 were collected in Dunham, et al. (2002) [DUNHAMETAL2002] Dunham, D.W., E. Goffin, J. Manek, M. Federspiel, R. Stone, and W. Owen 2002. Asteroidal occultation results multiply helped by HIPPARCOS, Memorie della Societa Astronomica Italiana (Journal of the Italian Astronomical Society), 73, 662-665. The timings are unpublished. Data : The occultation timing data are collected into three files. The occultations file lists a total of 183 occultations, one occultation per line, along with the identification of the asteroid and star, and additional information about the star including RA and dec. These are listed chronologically, with an occultation ID assigned to each one. The sites file lists the sites reporting timings for each event, with the occultation index to refer back to the occultations file, and assigning a site index to each site reporting for a given occultation. The latitude, longitude, and elevation of each site are included. The timings file lists the timings reported from each site, with the site index included to refer back to the site file. The timings are in UT date and time, with an event code indicating appearance or disappearance, the type of detector, and what correction was made, if any, for personal equation. In the diameters compilation, many objects have multiple entries indicating data have been reported by several groups. Details of the observations and data reduction are to be found in the individual papers.
