DATA_SET_DESCRIPTION Data Set Overview : This data set contains the Scott Hudson radar-based shape models for small solar system bodies. (The Peter Thomas shape models, based on optical data, are included in a separate data set, EAR-A-5-DDR-SHAPE-MODELS-V2.0.) The current version of this data set contains shape models for the following asteroids: 216 Kleopatra, 1620 Geographos, 2063 Bacchus, 4197 Toutatis, 4769 Castalia, 6489 Golevka, and 1998 KY26. Parameters : The polyhedral shape models are specified by the coordinates of the vertices of the polyhedron in conjunction with the linkages of the vertices into triangular facets. These files provide sufficient information for use in visualization applications such as POVray and DXF. The origin of the models is the center of mass, and the axes are the principal axes. For all the models except Toutatis, the z-axis is the spin vector or north pole. For Toutatis, the z-axis is the long axis. Toutatis is in a long-axis non- principal-axis rotation state. NOTE That while it is known the observations for these data must have been made at either Goldstone Solar System Radar Observatory or Arecibo Observatory, it is not always known at which facility the observations of a particular objet may have been made. Thus, in the data product labels the INSTRUMENT_HOST_NAME is often unknown.

CONFIDENCE_LEVEL_NOTE Review : This data set underwent external peer review on June 1, 2000. Reviewers recommended an alternate format for the data, and suggested that the current format, which is designed to serve as input for available visualization software, be provided to users as a service but not formally archived. It is planned to prepare this data set in a more acceptable format and bring it to review in 2001.
