Data Set Overview : This dataset contains results from the magnetometer flown aboard the Giotto spacecraft, and recorded during its flyby of Comet P/Grigg-Skjellerup in July of 1992. It contains both raw magnetometer readings from periods during 3 July to 11 July, as well as files containing time-averages of the magnetic field vectors during the encounter period.  Parameters : Each file contains a time-tagged list of magnetic field vector components as measure by the main (outboard) magnetometer. The raw data files also include periodic differences between these readings and the measurements made by the inboard magnetometer. The average files contain time-averages over 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 64, and 128 seconds (each in a separate file) and RMS errors for the encounter phase of the mission.  Data : The data are supplied in 62 files:  48 binary files containing the raw data, one hour's worth per file 7 binary files containing the various time-averages 7 ASCII files, created at the SBN, which contain the same information as the binary average files, but in ASCII form for browsing.
