DATA_SET_DESCRIPTION |
Dataset Overview : This dataset contains data acquired by the Galileo Magnetometer during the Ida flyby on Aug 28, 1993. It includes browse data, high-resolution data in both spacecraft and Ida-centric coordinates and trajectory data. A sample of cruise phase data around the time of encounter has also been included to provide a context for the encounter data. Note that the START_TIME and STOP_TIME above refer to the encounter period. The ancillary cruise data cover an additional several weeks before and after the encounter period. Primary Dataset Reference: Kivelson, M.G., Z. Wang, S. Joy, K.K. Khurana, C. Polanskey, D.J. Southwood, and R.J. Walker, 'Solar Wind Interactions with Small Bodies: 2. What Can Galileo's Detection of Magnetic Rotations Tell Us About GASPRA and IDA', Advances in Space Research, 1994 Primary Instrument Reference: Kivelson, M. G., K. K. Khurana, J. D. Means, C. T. Russell, and R. C. Snare, 'The Galileo magnetic field investigation', Space Science Reviews, 60, 1-4, 357, 1992. Parameters : The primary parameters provided in each data file are: browse Time, magnetic field components cruise Time, magnetic field components in RTN coordinates, spacecraft position and trajectory parameters hrsc Time, rotor parameters, magnetic field component in spacecraft coordinates hrgeoph Time, magnetic field components in Gaspra-SE, EME-50 and RTN coordinates traject Time, trajectory components in GASE coordinates, range and solar latitude and longitude Processing : These data were provided by the Galileo project to support the Ida/Gaspra observations. They have not been changed by SBN personnel, but neither have they been updated for any possible improvements in the mission data production pipeline. For the most recent version, please contact the Galileo Project. Data : For a detailed description of the data in each file, including acquisition, sampling and coordinate system notes, see the accompanying documentation files. Coordinate System : The data are provided relative to several different coordinate systems. See the accompanying documentation files for details. Media/Format : The data are being delivered on CDROM to the PDS archive and the National Space Science Data Center. Copies of all or part of this collection may also be available for downloading directly from the on-line archives of the Small Bodies Node.
