Data Set Overview
  =================
The Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 data
archive contains calibrated data of Mars observed between April
    27, 1999 and September 4, 2001. These are full-disk images of
Mars obtained primarily through narrowband filters and in the
wavelength interval of 255 to 1042 nm. The data have been
calibrated to radiance factor, or I/F. The archive is divided into
13 groups according to different observation dates, and each group
contains five different types of FITS files:
    1. simple cylindrical projection images in a cube with backplanes
       containing emission and incidence angles
    2. orthographic projection images in a cube with backplanes
containing latitude, longitude, emission angle, and incidence
       angle
    3. Unprojected image for each wavelength
    4. simple cylindrical projection image for each wavelength
(used to compile the cube #1)
    5. orthographic projection image for each wavelength
(used to compile the cube #2)

Important parameters and information can be found in the file
headers. For the files with the 'RL' prefix, please see near the
bottom of the header for more organized information. This can be
helpful in further manipulation of the data. For example, The
value of F (solar flux) used in our calibration process is
included in the headers with the keyword starting with 'FSUN', so
that one can go back to radiance units (I).

The following table summarizes some information on the thirteen
observation groups in the data archive. The first column list the
observation dates in the format, YYMMDD. The resolution is the best
spatial resolution at the sub-Earth point for images obtained on
    the PC1 chip.

  Data
  ====
The data products are stored as FITS images and cubes. All files
with 'IMG' suffix contain 2D image in a simple FITS format. The
remaining files with the 'CUB' ending have 3D array consisting of
2D images stacked in increasing wavelength order (except for
010626 data set) with additional information stored in the
backplanes, which have the same array size as the preceding 2D
images. The FITS headers contain detailed and tailored
    information about their content.
