DATA_SET_DESCRIPTION Data Set Overview : This dataset contains a variety of shape models for comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, the target of the Rosetta mission, together with a definition of the body-centered coordinate system for the nucleus. One source of shape models is the 3-D Modeling group of the OSIRIS science team. This group has produced two different models using stereophotoclinometry techniques, each of which has strengths and weaknesses for different regions of the nucleus (these are discussed in the user_guide.asc file in the document directory). Each model is presented in its highest-resolution form, with additional versions in degraded resolution (in steps roughly a factor of 2) for ease of use when the highest resolution is not needed. Additional information about the models and their production are given in the document directory. The version number of the dataset will be incremented as additional and/or updated shape models are added. The other source for shape models is the ESA Rosetta Mission Operations Centre (RMOC), which has provided a third version of the shape model from NAVCAM images, also created using stereophotoclinometry techniques. The data are all tesselated triangular plate models provided in different formats, including a basic shape model with a WRL wrapper for ease of viewing, and and a digital shape kernel (DSK) for use with SPICE software (toolkit 0066 and later). The RMOC model is also provided in other formats for use in 3D printers, etc. Concerning Citation of the Data : Each individual shape model data product and reference frame document contains its own unique citation. When citing these, please use the CITATION_DESC found in the PDS label file associated with it. A list of all CITATION_DESC can be found in the INDEX directory. Version History : Additional shape models and reference frames are expected to be included at a later time. Please note that in each product label there is a NOTE stating in which version the product was last updated. In summary, below is what was included or changed with each version. V1.0 (initial version) includes: - Plate SPC SHAP2, MSPCD SHAP2, and RMOC MTP009 shape models - DSK SPC SHAP2, MSPCD SHAP2, and RMOC MTP009 shape models - Cheops reference frame v1

CONFIDENCE_LEVEL_NOTE Confidence Level Overview : The Cheops reference frame has been approved by a joint IAU/SBN peer review for use in descibing the nucleus of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, and the document describing it is presented in the document directory of this dataset. The ESA RMOC model was used to define the Cheops reference frame. The other shape models have been aligned to this frame. There is a small discrepancy between the model derived from the NAVCAM images and the models derived from the OSIRIS images. If the large node of the nucleus is aligned in each case, then there is a slight, systematic offset (typically a few meters) between the orientations of the smaller node. (e.g., if images are blinked, it looks like there is a slight flexure at the neck.) It is not known why this discrepancy exists, or how much of an effect it has on the utilization of the models. 2016-03-22, T.Barnes & T.Farnham, NASA PDS Small Bodies Node.

ABSTRACT_TEXT This data set contains a collection of shape models and their associated reference frame(s) for the Rosetta target 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko 1 (1969 R1). These were produced by Rosetta mission teams, based on OSIRIS and NAVCAM image data obtained at the comet.
