| DATA_SET_DESCRIPTION |
Data Set Overview : This dataset contains the plasma electron density derived from cross-calibrating datasets provided by RPC-MIP and RPC-LAP instruments for EXT2 (ROSETTA EXTENSION 2) mission phase, between 2016/04/06 and 2016/06/30. While this dataset aims to cover the entire Rosetta mission, it is not possible to derive the plasma density for each single measurement in a continuous manner and only days with sufficient quality are provided. Derived cross-calibrated data collected in this dataset are referred as CODMAC Level 5 products. Processing : Cross-calibrated plasma electron densities enclosed in this dataset have been obtained by combining measurements from RPC-LAP and electron densities derived from RPC-MIP. While reliable electron density values are obtained through the analysis of RPC-MIP electric impedance spectra measurements, they suffer a number of limitations due to instrumental capabilities, notably affecting the time resolution. On the other hand, RPC-LAP provides high cadence measurements of physical quantities directly related to the electron density. Cross-calibrated plasma electron densities are thus obtained by fitting floating potential and/or ion current measured by RPC-LAP probes to the electron densities provided by RPC-MIP. The cross-calibration is performed over fixed overlapping sliding time windows, assuming a physical model between both inputs. Possible issues on RPC-MIP and RPC-LAP inputs usability for such purposes are a priori limited by a careful selection of cross-calibration intervals as well as prioritization between RPC-LAP measurements used as input (between floating potential and ion current and between RPC-LAP probes). All inputs used during the cross-calibration procedure are available as L5 datasets on the PSA: - RO-C-RPCMIP-5, containing the RPC-MIP derived electron density - RO-C-RPCLAP-5, containing different measurements from RPC-LAP probes. Only a subset of macros leading to floating potential or ion current measurements on probe 1 or 2 is considered for cross-calibration. Results from the cross-calibration processing are filtered out to discard, as much as possible, false detections and cases where the underlying assumptions are disputable. This is achieved through a prioritization among several possible RPC-LAP inputs to be cross-calibrated with RPC-MIP and by discarding events where the measurements quality can be limited (e.g. during attitude correction maneuvers, bad illumination conditions for RPC-LAP probes, etc). For more information on data products and on the cross-calibration procedure, consult the RPCMIP User Guide and RPCMIP/RPCLAP Cross-Calibration Report.

| ABSTRACT_TEXT |
This archive contains cross-calibrated data from the RPC-MIP and RPC-LAP instruments on-board ROSETTA Orbiter acquired during the ROSETTA EXTENSION 2 mission phase. Observations are performed in the vicinity of comet 67P/C-G. It also contains documentation which describes the RPC-MIP experiment. The data archived in this data set conform to the Planetary Data System Standards, Version 3.6.
