Temperature measurements from multiple sensors in the Sample
Return Capsule of the Stardust spacecraft

The descriptions in this file were written by Tony Farnham using
information from the ``Stardust Mission Plan document'' (used by
permission from the Stardust project).
Data Set Overview
=================
This data set presents the temperature measurements of the Stardust
Sample Return Capsule (SRC). Twelve different sensors were placed at
various locations in the SRC and used to monitor the thermal
environment and the temperature of the individual components of the
instrument. Temperatures measured by each sensor were recorded,
typically every few minutes, throughout the mission. The last
measurements were taken shortly before the SRC separated from the main
body of the spacecraft.
SRC Temperature Sensors
-----------------------
The following temperature sensors were installed inside Stardust
Sample Return Capsule (SRC).
Name Acronym # on Diagram Location

Avionics/Sensor 1 AV_TMP1 1 Avionics side
Avionics/Sensor 2 AV_TMP2 2 Avionics side
Battery/Sensor 1 BAT_TMP1 3 Avionics side
Battery/Sensor 2 BAT_TMP2 4 Avionics side
Hinge Sensor HING_TMP 5 Avionics side
Latch 1 Sensor LAT1_TMP 6 Avionics side
Latch 2 Sensor LAT2_TMP 7 Avionics side
Shoulder Sensor SHLD_TMP 8 Avionics side (?)
Separation Mechanism SEPM_TMP 9 Avionics side
Parachute Sensor PARA_TMP 10 Avionics side
Wrist Motor/Sensor 1 WRT_M_T1 11 Collector side
Wrist Motor/Sensor 2 WRT_M_T2 12 Collector side
Notes: The heater(s) that maintained avionics and battery
temperature were located on the avionics side of the deck. The
shoulder and wrist sensor readouts are probably most representative
of the collector temperature.

Event Timing
------------
Below is a list of mission phases and events that could affect the
temperature of the SRC components, and the dates when they occurred
during the mission.
DSM events -- Deep space maneuvers, which produce changes in the
spacecraft orbit
ISP events -- Periods when the SRC is open and the collector is deployed
to collect samples of interstellar dust particles
